I have a 53 Chevy pickup which I like to play around with although I'm much less mechanically inclined than many of the members here.
My present problem is that I'm rebuilding a Carter YF carb which was going well enough except that I have a ball to include in the reassembly and I'm unsure of where it belongs. It isn't the ball that is held under the acceleration pump cover. I'm sure that it is probably an easy answer but this is the first time that I've worked on a carburetor. I put the carb back on and the truck starts fine when it is cold. However, it now doesn't want to start after it gets hot. You need to look at the schematic (blow up of the carb. that came with the kit) and find the "T" shaped part on the diagram. The "T" shaped part is pinned (sp) (hammer and punch) into place and you may have not removed it from the carb. body. Under the "T" shaped part is a spring and a check ball. Use a pair of needle nose plires and pull out the "T" shaped part turn over the carb. and dump out the spring and ball. To install drop in the ball,spring, and T, push the T in and with a small punch and hammer repinn the T into the hole.

I know the Rochester carburetor has that arrangement.

But you should look a the blowup on the instruction sheet and see if it shows 2 balls or 1.
