I bought 2 T5 trannys from a local transmission shop. They overhauled them several years ago and recently decided not to keep them in stock anymore. The owner said that they haven't worked on a older S10 pickup in quite a long time. I bought them for $200 each and he gave me a 12,000 mi warranty. They both have the forward positioned shifter(S10)and the mechanical speedo. One has a sticker with a bar code and a number that started with 1352 that I was able to identify from the Inliners tech page. The other has a metal tag stamped with the numbers 1352 211 which wasn't listed on the tech page. Can anyone help me id this tranny? I would like to know the gear ratios so that I can decide if I want to use it. I also asked the shop owner what he recommended to use in the T5. He didn't even hesitate, ATF. Thanks

It appears to be out of a 1992 s10 truck,with a 2.5 L4 engine.This is all i have found so far,hope it helps .Maybe you should ask the transmission shop,where you purchased it.

The T5 listed for the 92 S10 with a 2.5l 4cyl. shows a ratio of 3.76, 2.18,1.41 and a .72 5th. This is from the transmission with the tag.
However, I am a bit puzzled as I thought they switched to the electronic speedo in 88-89. I just checked a 93 T5 and it has the electronic speedo pickup which looks similar to the mechanical speedo fixture. I'd check down in the hole and make sure you can see some gears.

As for the other transmission without the tag...you can't go by the numbers cast in the case. At worst you'll wind up with a 4.03 1st and a .86 OD. Which isn't bad. You're just going to have to watch your tire height and ring & pinion ratio to make sure you're going to come up with a workable combo for your type of driving.

Thanks for the input. The shop owner only knew that it came out of an S10. I can clearly see the gear inside that turns on the transmission shaft. That's what confused me also, I thought that they changed to electric speedo in 88. Could someone have put the older shifter housing on a newer tranny?

Just a thought....I just checked the position and angle of the 1985 mechanical speedo versus the 1993 electronic speedo. With the tranny in the position it would be when mounted to the engine the electronic speedo hole sits at about a 40 degree down angle...pointing directly at the center of the output shaft. The mechanical speedo hole is on a horizontal plane...which would have the small speedo gear meshing with the bottom of the gear on the output shaft.

I took a couple pictures of the tailshafts... I'll add them to the last page of my webshots. That should give you a better idea of what to look for. Hope this helps you sort out the trannys.
