The old question is windshield wipers or not? I am considering not putting wipers on my truck. W

I do not plan on driving the truck in the rain. If I get caught in the rain I will have the windows treated with rain X

What do you think?

some places i think it illegal to not have windshield wipers... a safety thing...and that couldnt be grandfathered if it came with wipers... i dint have any for about a year...but just got them fixed.... guess i was used to old ford vacuum wipers,,didnt work worth a crap ever... but this old bolt just wipes away blink blink blink even at idle and even givin it gas.... cant believe it... *S*

No wipers! No wipers = shaving the wiper switch off the dash as well!

Rain-x works at highway speed. Have you ever been in the rain with no wipers at low speed? FYI from one who's worked in law enforcement. Purposly reducing/obstructing your vision in any vehicle operated on public roads is illegal. How well do you like paying tickets? Some jurisdictions will impound your vehicle because it's unsafe. Your choice.

move to Arkansas, no inspections, no enforcement, you can drive anything that will move(or maybe not move sometimes),,we got folks often pulling cars w/a chain down the freeway,,just today coming out of Little Rock I was behind an overloaded pickup truck w/a load of old broken bricks w/no tailgate, then I was behing another pickup piled 4 ft+ over the cab w/old wooden pallets-none strapped down or anything,no tailgate either,guy lost one before I got around him,then the county guy cutting the brush on side of the road-from the center of the road,,slinging shrapnel all over passing cars-not even so much as an orange triangle on the thing,,oh yeah last week there was the guy on the off ramp shooting at a fawn that still had spots,,brian

LOL! Theres ways around tickets! Here in Ms all you have to do is have a inspection sticker to be legal and to get one if you are illegal is just slip the inspector a $50 for a $5 inspection sticker!

All I know is that in Michigan it's illegal to NOT have a working wiper on the driver's side.

I checked into what needed to be on the truck for it to be street legal.

You might want to do what I did and ask a State Trooper. They'll be more than happy to tell you what you do and do not need to have on the truck.

Besides the legality of it, what about the safety of driving a vehicle without operable wipers. Call me what you will, but you are sharing the road with a bunch of other cars. Besides the issue of your own safety, think about theirs. It's not that difficult to maintain operating wipers and it does not detract from the appearance of the vehicle. Whether or not you can get away with it should be secondary to whether or not it's safe, and it's not safe to drive a vehicle without windsheild wipers. Please, for the sake of the rest of us install windsheild wipers. The country bumpkin stories that 64 Fleetside told may be funny to hear, but they are down right dangerous in the real world that we live in. When people don't use common sense and show consideration for others, that's when we all end up having to submit to increasing government oversight (safety inspections, smog testing, etc.). It ends up costing all of us, even those who maintain a fully operable safe vehicle.

lumbergh, they ain't stories but fact & not meant to be funny-I live in the armpit of America & can't afford to move...last nov 30 I got mangled by an 18 wheeler who then drove off, the state troopers did not even want to write a report even tho it happened on a state hiway, let alone find the guy (who lives 2-3 miles away from me). no one cares about anything here.brian

Sorry what I meant was those stories sound funny when we read them, but in the real world it's not funny at all when they are happening. I agree that what happened to you with the semi was bad, but what happened with the state troopers was probably even worse. Stuff like this doesn't just happen in Arkansas, though. When I was a kid, 11 I think, a car came speeding around a corner in a residential area of town and rammed into the passenger's side of my mom's, IMHO, georgeous Mercury Montclair (big tail fins and lots of chrome ). The kid's mangled car was still running and he left the scene as quickly as it would go. Luckily, neither me nor my mom were seriously hurt; however, since we reported that no one was injured, the police didn't show up for over 2 hours to file a report. Later my mom and her friend went out to look at the scene and were able to follow a trail of fluid to a nearby Kmart parking lot where it ended. Evidently the kid got the car towed from there. If the police had given a s_ _ _ and had shown up within half an hour, they would have found the responsible party easily. Instead my mom who was among the working class below the poverty line was without a car or any means of getting another one. This was in California.

it depends where you are,,my wife saw a fella hit a parked Cadillac @ Wal-mart & drive away-she left a note on the lady's car w/guys tag #-north little rock cops charged the guy w/felony hit & run after finding out he had returned an item at that time(he originally said he didn't go to Wal-mart),,cops called my wife at least 3 times about it, State police never called me back until I called them 2x daily for a week,,go figger. brian
