The 1947 I just saw had beautiful red needles. The color of the guage itself was so nice too. Or is that the product of garage parking? | | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 | They changed over to white at some point. The ones on my '50 are white.

The speedometer needle was off-white color but it eventually curled up against the glass and had to be replaced. The only replacement speedo needle available to me 30 years ago was a brilliant translucent red/orange one so I put it in. It is still in there in it's un-original orange splendor because I can't be bothered changing it out just for the sake of color-correctness. So, all is not always what it seems........

However, if you order new gauges for the 47 or 48, they're usually longer like the white ones of later years. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 149 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 149 | The needle in my '49 was white.... and well curled..lol The speedo was all gummed up sp I popped it out to clean it and get it working again, and wa-la.. the needle self-destructed..
so rather than leave it out until I found a replacement.... I fixed the prob the way I learned all those years ago.... A dab of Elmers glue..and a wooden match-stick and put it all back together and bingo..an operating speedo... (Although I probably need to be careful of that RED tip if I park in the sun....lol)

Yeah, think of what that pretty little red tip on the match could do on a sunny day.............
