I was looking at a 1955 1st series GMC truck it has a automatic trans that does not have a Park just N D D R. This truck looks like a 54 but is a 55. I was wondering how hard it is to find parts for???

GMCs share many parts with the chevys but some are unique such as the hood and the front fenders on some years. Parts specific for Jimmys are always going to be harder to find. If it is complete there should not much fear though.

Not too familar with the old automatics but it sounds like a hydramatic unit.

The 54 and 55.1 appearance wise are almost identical. Differences in those years are limited to badging and drive shaft design.

Any 55 1st is a rare dog. If it's in any kind of shape & priced half way right grab it. I had a 55 1st panel once. Sold it in '73 for a song before I discovered how rare they are (750 made). I've kicked myself since and would almost sell my soul to find it & get it back.

Reverse served as a parking gear on those old hydro,s.

66Impala,

Is there any chance you could post a photo of the steering-column-mounted gear-selector/indicator display?

I know that the 1954 Chevrolet and the 53/54 GMC Hydra-Matic selector/indicator displays are different in appearance. The same-year transmissions are the same for GMC and Chevrolet. However, the carburetor linkages, shifter linkages, and the column displays are also different. However, the 1953/54 GMC and 1954 Chevrolet Hydra-Matic display show the same selections:

From left to right

1. N (Neutral)
2. 1-4
3. 1-3
4. 1-2
5. R (Reverse - which locks as a "Park" when ignition is off)

I am not certain about what is shown on the GMC 1955-1st display (but I would guess that the selector would have the same display as in the 1954 GMC).

Tim

I've never even seen a 54 or 55.1 Panel. Anyone know of any pics we could see?
