What is the typical size and thread of the wheel studs on a stovebolt? Did GMC ever use bigger ones?

1/2 ton or 3/4 ton. Mine is a 6 lug 3/4 ton 1940 gmc. i was wondering if it would make a difference with the stock wheels if they were bigger.

Typically, pre '70 1/2 tons had 7/16" studs, with 3/4 ton having 1/2" and 1 ton with 9/16". It can make a difference with the wheels if the studs are larger in diameter, thenut seat may not fit correctly on the wheel, and will give an incorrect torque reading. The lug nut seat can be modified with a 60 degree countersink bit, you just slowly machine the seat to the correct size. I have done this on the Blazer ralleys that I have on my '55, no problems at all. I had to do it beacause I installed 1/2" studs in place of 7/16". The same procedure can be used to repair damaged lug nut seats too.
