my condenser is leaking. would like to replace myself if possible. the system is from southern rods (old aire) and just any generic condenser would do. any ideas or suggestions? or anyone in dallas you could recommend?

Why not just take it out and take it to a local A/C service place and have them repair it. If it is "made for the system", it seems it would better to use it than buy a new one, not to mention cheaper.

is a condenser repairable? it looks like it got poked and is "cone'd" out about an inch... seems like there should be some quick way to fix it though...

go to HD and get some of that expoxy puddy/clay, I use it on a lot of things, gets hard as a rock and easy to use, just pinch off what little you need, roll it round and bingo put it on...........I fix a leaking gas tank on my international with gas still in it,,,,,,,,,about 7 yrs ago.. still holding

if you can see the bad spot and can get to it, you may not even need to remove it........ the large tube is about 7 bucks.... called ep-400 epoxy putty..always have some around my place

Old Air in Ft Worth has a condensor kit engineered for 60-66 trucks,,made for 134A & comes with a drier & lines,,about $200+ but fits like a glove,,brian

thanks 64fleetside... but a little more than i want to spen at this time. southernrods.com has the condenser i need for $89 and i think old air is the manufacturer??? from what i have found condensers are pretty generic. i tried looking for an auto ac supply to maybe just find a universal condenser. that should work if the fittings are the right size... seen universals on ebay for $50 but think i may try the expxy route first as funds will be limited untill next weekend. with no insulation in the cab and the texas heat i want to get something going ASAP

Troy, there is a really good a/c shop located right off Greenville Ave right next to that old schlumberger lumberyard. I.e. a couple of blocks south of Mockingbird. I don't remember the exact name of the shop, but I have been going to that cat for years. See what he can do for you. I think the stree is Yale. McSomething automotive.

yeah... i decided against that epoxy. arnswine, i'll have to look for that place. thats actually north of mocking bird but i know where you are talking about and yes the name of that road is Yale. i'll see what i can find searching google in that area. whoo! it is too hot around here to not have it fixed!

Your right on Yale's location, one of my nightclubs used to be there. Just several doors down was Bill Stokes Studio and they did the actual filming of Bonnie and Clyde, even though it was released by MGM or Paramont or one of the big outfits. They fenced off a vacant lot at Yale and Greenville to keep many of the old cars used in the film. Needless to say the bar business got neglected alot while the owner was all over the old cars and probably wore some of the owners out with questions.

Being the pack rat that I am (would you believe TWO extra storage buildings) I'm sure I have some old Mark 1V or other aftermarket condensers. They're small enough to fit in front of nearly any radiator and that can be a problem. Everything was R-12 when these were in use and their size and fin count isn't what's needed to get the most out of 134A. In the small volume of a pickup cab, especially if insulated, one might do OK. I'll look tomorrow and if ones there it's yours for the gas money it'll take you to come get it. Remember these old condensers didn't have O ring or flare fittings, the hose just fit on a barbed tube and was held with an a/c hose clamp.

I'd try soldering it and if that doesn't work, a trip to the junk yard should.

ok. well i found a place by TI at 635 and 75 here in Dallas. McCains A/C service. they sold me a condenser and made the new hoses for me. they even let me install iit in their parking lot and lent me a few tools. great guys and now im COOL! if you need any work in the DFW area check these guys out!
