For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 21 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 21 | I have a 53 Chevy 1 ton with a Grain Bed with a Later model Chevy 292 motor and need some information about the year of the engine and the original color it was painted. I think it is between 1968 and 1988, because the dipstick is located near the back on the block. The numbers I have gotten from the block near the dipstick are CON 2 2137 and 3851659 with GM under it and 6 under the GM. Also the numbers stamped into the distributor pad are F21872 and a 21 in a circle. Also need to find out what carburetor was originally on 292 or how to identify the carb on it. It is a Rochester and has an H stamped on the tag. I don’t think this is original carb and it needs rebuilt. I have a big rebuild job on my hands and since I am retired and on a fixed income I am trying to do most of the work myself. This will not be a complete restoration as the truck is fairly solid for being 53 years old. Thanks in advance for any suggestions, they are greatly appreciated. I will try to post some pictures and keep you informed of my progress. Thanks again, Ralph | | |
