For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 96 Member | | Member Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 96 | Just bought a '49 1/2 ton Chevy pickup. It came with 16" split rims. I want to replace these rims with one-piece rims. Are there any I can get that will look close to the original and will accept my stock hub caps? Thanks. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 | Depends on what they look like. Can you post a picture or two? | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 1,158 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 1,158 | As tcleterman says, it depends upon what they look like.
I believe that the wheels through the fifties will fit okay on the front; if the wheels are too wide you'll run into problems. The rear wheels can be whatever you want.
As for "new" wheels... Good luck. AFAIK, the only "new" wheels in production that will fit correctly are the "Bling-Bling" chrome wheels that will definitely look out of place on a '49 1/2 ton and won't accept your hub caps.
Any particular reason that you're ditching your split rims? I'm running the stock 15" split rims on Number Seven and they're working beautifully. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 96 Member | | Member Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 96 | I've actually no experience with old split rims. Just heard they could be dangerous and was thinking that avoiding the innertube might be more convenient. I'm going to use the truck for pulling a single-axle boat trailer 10-20 times a year. The boat ramp is only about 10 miles from my house. Thanks for all your help. | | |
