I noticed in the latest LMC catalog they have an electric wiper kit for $130. It works on 6 or 12 volts. I have no connection with LMC but buy alot of parts from them being they are close to me. Their over the counter service is excellant. George

I put electric wipers in my '53 wrecker.Since it is an every other day driver it is so much better than those; stop working when you need them most vacuum wipers.I payed more than $130.I believe.

I paid $150 from Chevy Duty over a year ago... but I think that included shipping.

I've read that it might be worth a few extra bucks to get the wiper delay kit too.

There are several different wiper kits available.
A few years ago bought one made by New Port Engineering [somewwhere in the Pacific N.W.-I think] for another vehicle. It was supposed to be a "direct bolt in replacement". Well it sure as hell wasn't took a whole day and a half to get it working right. Hardware wouldn't fit, alignment was off.....Wasn't worth a darn, much less what I paid for it. Just my $.02 worth, but I would avoid their stuff like the plague.

I put a New Port conversion in my '55, it went in fine for me.maybe you had one that was boxed wrong? Mine works great, i got it from Patrick's.

Anything is possible.
The installation was in a 48 Furd Coupe, so there may have been some subtle differences. Also it was many years ago, so giving New Port the benefit of the doubt they may have improved since then and they didn't offer an intermittentoperation then as some conversions now do. I'm just one of those Grumpy Old Farts who tend to remember when something doesn't work right the first time, every time...personally I would just opt for another manufacturer.

I bought my electric wipers from Chevy Duty a couple months ago. Kit was from New Port Engineering. Fit was into a '49 GMC. Install was a piece of cake... excellent instructions. Issues I encountered... the electric motor is MUCH larger than the vacuum motor. The under dash part of the wiper on/off switch is also large and I wasn't able to get it to fit in the original wiper switch location. Also, if you ever have to remove the speedo from the dash you will have to remove the electric wiper unit first due to clearance problems.

My experience with the Newport unit in my '47 Chev. was the same as Mike's. The unit itself bolted right in, but I had to relocate the switch. I hadn't thought about the speedo. I will eventually need to pull mine out, so I appreciate the heads up on this.

I installed my Newport kit right at five years ago into my '51 half-ton, after trying some cheaper alternatives. The unit installed easily and worked with my old original linkage just fine. It worked great until about two years ago when after using the wipers for quite a while, I couldn't get them to shut off! I unplugged the power to the wipers and called Newport the next day to buy a new switch.
Whoever it was that answered my call told me that he would be glad to sell me a new switch ($11), but first, I should try adjusting the "wiper park" screw on the side of the unit.
It worked great and saved me a few bucks.

I have the New Port wiper motor in my 54 truck. Installation involved slipping on a couple nylon collars to the linkage, c-clips and tightening 2 screws to hold unit to my existing brackets. Electrical hookup was 1 wire to hot, 1 to ground. Switch was prewired and went in old wiper switch hole.

The only disclaimer offered was possible clearance problems if a factory radio was installed.

The motor is quiet, easy to install, the instructions are precise, and well worth the $130. bucks from Chevy Duty.

I got mine from Chevy Duty too. It's made it through 2 winters just fine.
