I'm building a 66 c10 shortbed fleet. I wanted to know if anyone knew the correct rim size and width, where there any optional rims available in 66. also, was power steering a option in 66 on the c-10. thank you much, Hans

Wheels were 6 lug 15x5.5.

Yes, Power steering was an option, but is pretty rare, I believe.

Hi Hans, I'm glad you got your answer. It's not a tough crowd, just when you get down to the details, they don't stick their neck out but wait till the right guy/year answers it. As you can see in the gallery the main bunch has a bit older vehicle. And not everybody visits here every day. Some live here,(like me) but some only step in once a week, if it takes too long, just answer your own message, with "bump" or some more info and you're on top of the pile again. If in need of answers and you can't wait, try emailing someone from the gallery with the same truck/year. That usually does the trick for me. While I'm at it, you're not in the Gallery yet? How come?

Power steering is a very rare option. Of all the salvage yards or truck shows that I've been to, I have never seen an original power steering system. I don't have my owner's manual with me, but I think that there weren't any other wheel options.

I have seen 1 66 with power steering from the factory. It is the linkage type. The latter model is pretty easy to install.

The linkage system uses a hydraulic ram that is attached to the frame and the center link/tie rod to provide assist. It also had a spool valve in the center link/drag link to control the fluid flow. This system was used in cars up to '65, trucks to '66. Corvettes used it to the '82 models. The intigrated style would be a much better installation, not as many hoses to deal with.

Wrenchbender Ret. and Longbox55 are correct on the power steering being linkage type and what it can be found on. The 77 Vette PS mounted very similar to the mounting points on the 65 project I sold, someone had already graped the vitals before I got it.

Woogeroo left out that the REZ kit mounts a 70 to 86 PS box to your frame. I had 63 a C20 with a 70 PS box. The previous owner made 1/2 inch spacers for the bolts that mount PS box. The setup worked great for me for 5 years. I have heard some negatives about mount the PS box that way. The kit or spacers are required because the later frames have a dimple for box. Yor biggiest problem maybe finding the brackets to mount the PS pump particularly if you have an L6.
