Hello Everyone,

I'm restoring a 1950 3800. Can anyone tell me what the name of the piece is, that bolts to the lower part of the grille, and what color they were originally painted? This piece has a larger size hole, for the original hand crank to pass through. Any assistance is greatly appreciated....Clint

I believe their called lower splash apron and were the same color as the truck.
I'm sure someone will correct me, Please do.

I think you are referring to what Chevy called the lower radiator grille baffle, shown as the lower part labeled "1.286 Baffle" in this picture. I think all of the inner sheetmetal, behind the grille, would have been black.

ADs didn't have spash aprons, AFAIK. They had a bumper panel that went above the bumper, but they had no apron.

It's the grille baffle and it's supposed to be black, IINM.

Curt is correct, it was black. These baffles frequently rusted out. I hope yours is in good shape, it is hard to find a decent replacement.

Tell me about it, mine was like a swiss cheese ,some of the holes were 3" wide. I found one at the Monroe Swapmeet ,it was so nice you could chrome it, for $2.00.The guy didn't know what it was from.

ditto on hard to find,took me yrs to find a good one.funny thing was i found two at the same swapmeet the same day one that looked like it just came out of the box for$100 and another one that was perfect with the exception thatsomeone had drilled two holes in and added grommets for cooler lines which i would have had to do anyway. i bought that one for $40 grinned all the way home. till i thought about it and realized should have bought both.seriously i looked for atleast eight yrs for this piece..........dave

Thanks guys. I got the cab back, body and paint will soon be completed on bed and rear fenders. I guess I got lucky, the lower grille baffle is straight and rust free. By the looks of things, my old 3800 should be reassembled by the end of summer...Thanks again....Clint
