Hi;
I'm told my fine truck looks like the one on the old TV show Sanford and Son. Anyone know what kind of truck was featured on Sanford and Son? What year? Yeah, I know that's not a mechanical topic, but....

I believe that was a late 40's early 50's Ford F-1.

It's an F-word all right. Probably a '51 or '52.

My 57 Chevy 3100 was owned by NBC studios and was supposed to be the Sanford and Son's truck but they couldn't get it to run. Good for me I guess. I'm still trying to get some original pictures with the NBC peacock on the truck doors.

It's a Mercury. 1947. There were two used in the show altogether. One was for sale in Colorado in 1998 or so near Fort Collins, by an outfit called Classical Gas Station, if I remember right. They had the studio paperwork and documentation to go with the truck. They were pretty proud of the truck then, as they were wanting $15K or so. Saw the truck myself. I was there looking for a COE Dodge or Chvy to build a hauler from, and looked at the Merc, among other things.

Back in 1969 I had a very nice 1951 F1 Ford 1/2 ton. It was just like the Sanford and Sons' truck. Except mine was blue. So I had to watch the show on TV. I had a good laugh. As the show starts up there is a good shot of Lamont driving the 1951 or 1952 F1. The front hood emblem has Ford on it not Mercury.

That may be, but I know what I was looking at. When you see and have studio documentation, that's pretty much the end of the story, no?

I guess I've never seen the Mercury. Is there a picture of it anywhere that anyone knows about, or do I have to start watching reruns?

I recently saw the Sanford & Son Marathon, on T.V. Land, & also catch two programs, of it daily, on the W.B. channel. I've always seen the '51/'52 Furd, & never a '47 Mercury. Totally different body styles.
