Is an overdrive from a '57 Chevy car the same as an overdrive from a '55 Chevy Pickup? What is this transmission worth?

They can be, but I have heard that the truck ones have more splines on the shafts. They go from 100-150 depending on how well they work and if all the bits are there.

Double that ($) for a rebuild and then there's the "ebay factor". Same amount of splines. These Borg-Warner transmissions have a .70 overdrive gear resulting in this formulation for my final drive .70 X 3.90 ('57 open rear differential) = 2.73.
Perfect gearing for highway speed and fuel economy. I have had this transmission installed in this configuration on my '49 1/2 ton now for 6 years+.

There is no difference internally. The only difference is in the mounting to the bellhousing. The car trans has 4 open holes in which the bolts are threaded into the bellhousing. The truck has the lower holes on the trans threaded and the bolts are installed from inside the bellhousing into the trans. It is easy to work around these differences. The transmission case and gears are essentially the same as a standard muncie car or truck 3 speed.

The side cover and levers that operate the shifting forks may be different but I believe that can be overcome by using the side cover from your old tranny.
