I don't know what is changed for sure. Ask a tranny shop what year the improvements were made. Ask, why is it out of vehicle now, were there problems?

I had one rebuilt and at the last minute my guy found me an 87, but I had supplied him with an 84. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 738 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 738 | I know that the early ones had some problems, but for $75 I bet that you can fix any issues it does have. Sounds like a good buy to me.

It doesn't just kick down the automatic for passing like a TH350. Instead it helps tell the tranny what the load is for throttle desired. Its much more sophisitcated and if not set right will burn up the tranny. Get a shop to look at it or go to www.bowtieoverdrives.com for info. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 103 Member | | Member Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 103 | At $75.00 it is at a minimum a very good price for a core. Most places charge $95-100. Plus it can be upgraded to the newer (stronger) parts. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 141 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 141 | I had the 700R4 as original equipment in my '85 Suburban, had nothing but trouble with it. I finally had to take it to a speed shop for a total rebuild. It cost me major bucks. Spend a little extra and get a later model 700R4, is my advice. You ought to be able to pick up a core for $20 at a junkyard. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 205 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 205 | I have a completly rebuilt 700 R4 with a 2200 stall converter $850. plus frt.
