I have a 46 Chevy 1/2 ton.I am thinking about upgrading my front breaks to disks,I have seen some kits but am not sure what is needed or if these kits incluse everything. I want to keep most of the truck as original as possible but want to be able to stop a little better. Can you guys give me an idea of what all is needed for the upgrade, can this be done with the original master cylinder or will this need replaced also? Any help would be great.

and was wondering if it is worth it, I have not yet gone to any salvage yards and am not sure how to start looking in them, I went to a couple a few years back when I had an old cutlas and had a few issues that kinda burned me, since that time I have tried ordering parts on the web instead, it seemed a lot easier this way. I can do the work but am sometimes a little slow on getting to the point of understanding what needs to be done and parts needed.

ed,i'm a believer in kits,especially if you're limited in fabrication skills asi am. have ordered a few things from bow tie bits ,mostly used parts.have no complaints on their service. the kit you picked reccomended upgrading to tapered roller bearings.i think i saw akit in j. carters to do that. but i'm pretty sure you're going to have to go with a dual resivoir master cycl. as well along with a porptioning vale and probly some residual valves .i could be wrong buts thats my understanding of it anyway ,hope it helps.......dave

Just purchased 6 lug disk brake kit from classic perfomance products. A little slow on shipping but nice kit. Also ordered the tapered wheel bearings and went with a dual manuel master cylinder (power one would not fit with 4 speed)

Be careful and don't break anything while working on your brakes. There was a picture of the aftermath of a failure on CorvetteForum a few weeks ago - a guy tinkered with his brakes, they failed, and he burned down his house and car.

I got my kit from ECI Hot Rod Brakes. I changed all of them to disc. Still works great.
