[raises eyebrow]

No idea. I got the distinct impression that it was going to be a "Few and far between" kind of thing the last time that they did one.

The guys from the various vendors are members of the site and will let John and/or Peggy know when they decide to offer one.

I am slowly receiving parts from the December Jim Carter sale. Shipping costs have averaged 25%+

Chevy Duty has free shipping on most parts for orders over $300.

yes Tim - ya really hafta be careful to DEMAND to Carter that they NOT ship until everything's ready to go at once, and send it the cheapest way, which will be mail for light-ish stuff - they claim to "only" charge actual shipping costs now, and 6 different packages at $5 is gonna cost a lot more than one at $10 - I did specify that on the sale stuff I got, unfortunately they didn't seem to make a note of it and I got a 2nd package about 10 days after the first w/ 3 very small parts and it cost as much to send as the main order frown

I would contact the ones you are considering buying from and tell them what you're planning on spending and ask them straight out if they can give you a discount (or free shipping) so you'll give the business to them.

And whoever you go with, make sure you get a free t-shirt out of it too. That's quite a bundle of $$$.

And it's not being a tight-wad, it's just being thrifty wink

You might try a swap meet - you meet with the guys and can haggle. If you order from them they might also tote to a swap meet and save you on shipping.

I've found that if you have a supplier of preference you can dicker price with them... let them know if you can get a part cheaper elsewhere and you may find that they'll meet the price. But everyone's right - shipping costs are off the charts!

My guess would be that blanket discount offers from suppliers are going to happen at times when their sales are traditionally slower.

I don't have any solid data or sales figures to back this up, but my gut tells me that this time of year, with spring right around the corner, and income tax return checks coming in to folks, that this time of year is when sales at places like Jim Carters and American Classic picks back up.. people getting ready for the upcoming driving/show season.

Dosen't make much sence to offer discounts when folks are buying.. only when overall sales are sluggish.. since it's better to move product at a lower profit margin, than it is to sit on inventory.. because the electric bill, payroll, and general overhead expenses keep coming even during the lean times.

If I had to guess, i'd say you can expect somebody to step up to the plate with a discount closer twards spring.. to help increase visability and clear out inventory.

My last order with Jim Carter, a light bulb was back ordered, so sent separate. 5 bucks for shipping. I raised cain with them and got it refunded. They were really proud of their "actual shipping costs" policy. I think they need to re-think it.

I think, way back when you used to be able to get their catalogs for free, they used to have a check off box for receiving periodic emails when you filled out the form. I visited the web site too, and I didn't see a spot for getting email notices either.

I'm sorry guys but I haven't been very impressed with Jim Carters. The other day I ordered my windshield wipers from them, well the covers were on back order so OK I can get them later but what got me was I got the electric wipers and the catalog said to use thier reostat switch with it so I ordered it also. When the wipers came I found the switch in a Wells box, Autozone carries Wells parts, I haven't gone down to check the price differance but I'm not going to use it and it's not worth sending it back. Just not to happy with this order.
