For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 39 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 39 | My wife rode with me to Altanta and back (500) miles and had the nerve to complain about my original seats being hard... is there a bolt in seat from chevy that would be about the same size...etc. I have heard rumors about an s-10 seat being the right size. anyone know a cheap junkyard seat I could bolt in and take out when My wife goes on long trips etc. (she did object to a chair back in the bed...by the way) | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 990 Member | | Member Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 990 | The newer trucks can use just about any fullsize set of seats. I think the ADs are just slightly narrower. I have heard getting a late model buick lesabre seat from a boneyard would work. I have GMC van seats that have plenty of room between them for my 59. I would think the room between the seats would just be a bit less on your AD. The Van seats have lumbar support, armrests, and make the 1 ton much nicer to use. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,682 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,682 | Man, the longest I ever rode in a AD style truck is when I drove the '50 2 ton home from Wyoming.. about 30 minutes into the drive my lower back was killing me.
Stock seats I don't think were meant for long distance travel.. and there's something to consider when you swap original seats out for newer designs.
Part of the "shock absorbtion" system in those old trucks WAS the seat.. those big springs and cotton patting.. whereas newer vehicles have IFS, springs, gas shocks, all that jazz.
At the moment, I have a single bench seat I use in my '46 till I either get the original frames re-covered, or find sutable replacement seats.. and while I think the Toyota bench seat is more comfortable to sit in.. the ride sure is alot harder.. think air shocks all the way around fully pumped up in a newer vehicle.. thats the best way I can describe it.
an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.
