I've been reading what everyone said about the correct wheels for KENZ 51 Advance Design. You all said the artillery wheels he has must be for an older truck.
I have five wheels for my '46 Chevy. One is too rusty to salvage--huge flakes coming off. Two are original with three white pin stripes still on them. And one rim is a 1/4 inch wider than the other four. None of them are artillery wheels.
So here's my questions:
1. Were artillery wheels original on the 46/47 Advance Design 1/2 ton pickups?
2. What is the proper width for the rim? I understand it came with either 6.50 or 6.00/16 tires.
3. Were all the wheels in 46 and early 47 black with white pinstripes?

I'm not sure I have all of your answers, no do I guarantee mine are entirely correct, but heres a shot...

1) No, the wheels now commonly referred to as artillery wheels were available on the 3/4 ton trucks. The 1/2 ton trucks (light delivery trucks) came with a standard wheel.

2) I'm not sure of the proper rim width. Standard tires were 6-ply 6.00/16's. Optional tires were 6-ply 6.50/16, or 6 and 8-ply 15". Tires were generally from one of two sources, Goodrich, or Firestone.

3) I don't believe the trucks came with pinstriped wheels. This I don't know for sure, as the cars certainly appear to have, but most of the old pictures of original trucks I've seen didn't have pinstriping on the wheels.

By the way, I mention this just cause I know someone else will chime in, the 41-early 47 body style was known as an Art Deco. Advance Design didn't begin until late 47 through early 55.
