Because my 250 is worn out, and my column shifter is inop also, I intend to swap a 350/th350 Olds motor/tranny that I have in a trashed stationwagon. Anyone have experience with this swap? Also, I would like to add the power brake booster from the wagon, and maybe even the tilt column. Anyone have comments on either of these swaps? Thanks!

um well, I know on the '54 (you didnt tell us what year it was) the steering box gets in the way. So youd have to relocate it. Also the sixer mounts in the front and the V8 on the front-sides. Maybe a relocated tranny mount? Thats all I have to say, anyone else?

DOH! Sorry guys, you mean you don't know what I'm driving?! It's a '68, with 6cyl, 3spd. Currently it does have the bell housing tranny mount. I know I'll have to make some mounts. Anyone know of factory mounts that are close enough to modify?

Boyce please! What's sinful about going with the engine/trans combination that Y-O-U want. I'm entertaining a 350/700R4 combo myself for my '66 stepside. And I don't feel the least bit "guilty". grin

I kinda see it as a "do-it-the-first-time-and-get-it-over-with" thing. Since I plan on having a daily interstate driver with power brakes this serves my best interests.

hello boyce. i once installed a 455 olds in a 68 gmc. i used the stock bell housing and mounts by using a trans adapter from a company called tci.it was designed to use buick, olds, pontiac, cadillac trans with chevy engines. i just reversed it so the olds motor could be bolted to the chevy bell housing.i used a chevy monza 4 speed.[i know it was supposed to break, but it never did, even when towing other trucks with it].i used full sized olds car headers, and the front mounts were easy to make.remember, the starter is on the driver's side, the clutch pivot[z-bar]will need some fabrication, but i think most everything else is easy to adapt. if you use an olds 350 in yours, you might get some ideas if you go to a salvage yard and find a chevy truck with a deisel engine as these are similar to olds engines. good luck.
