While painting (what I thought was my 1941 truck) and I noticed for he 1st time (?) that there were 4 small screw holes around the gas filler opening. I figured the rubber filler gasket could cover them. However, when I went to my Chevys of the 40s catalogue and noticed that they sell a metal retaining ring (with 4 small holes)for around the filler opening...
The kicker is this...the retainer was listed as 42-46 trucks only. My truck does not have at tile or ID plate...I bought it believing it was a 41...Do these 4 holes indicate that the truck is in fact a 42?

that's a definite maybe grin
calender year trucks don't always have only parts of that year, sometimes if they're assembled toward the end of the production year [prolly aug to oct] they may get some parts that have already been redesigned for the following year

are there any other differences in 41-42? seems like there'd be some other changes that might add up to one or the other, or just an 'anomaly'

My '45 has the original four screw holes with the leather grommet & metal retaining ring around the filler neck. I bought that same grommet your talkin' about thinking the same thing. It doesn't cover the screw holes, so I stayed with the original retainer.

Is there chrome trim around the rear window?

What do the parking light assemblies look like? Are they one piece or are the two pieces?

Where is the lock on the passenger side door? Handle or on the door proper?

If the answers are yes, two, and handle, then you've probably got a '41. If the answers are no, one, and door, then it's a later model.

Probably.
