I have a 48 3100 that has a grill guard on it. I doesn't look like it's homemade. It looks like it was made for the 47-53 style truck grilles. I beleive I've seen them on other trucks before. Was this a factory accessory or something someone added on later?

It seems like I've read something that said that those were available from the dealership as an "Installed Option".

I have one of those in the back of one of my parts trucks somewhere. As I recall, it has an outer graceful loop with a second (and maybe third) bar with the same loop parallel to the outer one. I know it has a bowtie emblem in the center so it must have been offered by GM.

Notes:
1)The GMC guard shown fits only 47 and 48 pickups before the bumpers were changed in 49. I don't know if they made one like this particular guard for later GMC pickups.

2)The cattle catcher is the coolest, most popular and by far the most expensive. It is correct for 49-55.1 Chevy and GMC. Unfortunately I don't know if it was ever available to fit the 47 and 48 bumpers. Spanky may jump in on this.

3)The one on my GMC is not correct for a GMC, only for Chevy. The cattle catcher is now on this GMC. This guard is typically called "old school" guard and is the most common. They were usially chrome, this one pictured was powder-coated.

Spanky--I'd LOVE to post a picture of it. I bought a digital camera and registered on Photo Bucket but that's it. I'm such a moron when it comes to computers it's embarrissing. 69 years old and never had a job that required computer use so most instructions could be in Chinese and I'd have the same understanding. My nephew is coming down after Christmas so maybe he can drill me on procedure. I also have some finished projects I'd like to post but no luck.
