A few weeks back (I think in the Rare options thread) there was mention of something called a Cattle or Cow horn.

Most folks who have spent time around cattle know that they can be conditioned to come running when you call them, or honk a horn during feeding time.. but this magical device is supposed to emit a sound that no bovine can resist, and send them running to you regardless of conditioning.

So I gotta know.. where can I get one?

Didn't JC Whitney used to have a 'Bull Horn' that had a long lever on it so you could modulate the sound and make it moo?

Fumblin,

There have been at least one, and possibly a couple of them listed on E-Bay during the last few weeks.

I'd seen them just prior to reading that post you're talking about, but haven't been able to find them again since then.

I was looking at wolf whistles, when I came across them. You might try some different search techniques out there and see what you can find, cause I know they're there.

The cows have been known to put a few dents in your truck also grin

I got mine from JC Whitney about 2 years ago. Works with a cable and a lever.

JCWhitney does have a couple of different versions. One is designed to be used as a replacement for your current horn.

It's $44.99. Their catalog #WK812716. I think you need the installation kit for this one, $7.99, catalog #WK888315.

They also have the one described by 56picup. $79.99, catalog #WK142568.

If you have a catalog, they're on page #140.

By the way, both horns are 12 volt electric.

The cows either love 'em or hate'em. My 50 pickup has one that has been there since 51 or 52. My brother inlaws cows needed to be moved from one pasture to another. It was just a short 5 minute deal but it was cold. About 50 head. We decided to use the trucks. They were moving towards the wrong gate and we had them going everywhich way. I got ahead of them ,with all the power that the 216.5 had, and gave them a little cow horn toot. they turned and went across the 25 acres, into the correct pasture. and took 50 yds of fence with them. We couldn't catch them once I tooted. Don't know if they liked it or not.

My uncle had one of those on his jeep. I have to agree with fatboy, you could do a better job of chasing cattle than calling them.

The horn doesn't matter it's what you do with it. At least 1-2 weeks before you want to move a heard of cattle, show up with a sack full of cattle cubes or some other sweeet feed they love.

Blow the horn over and over, and throw out the feed. Come back the next day at the same time and repeat.

Within a few days, Pavlov takes over and they will follow that horn like it's mamma calling.

It helps to have an extra horn, that way using your normal horn won't confuse their bovine minds.

does the original bull horns run off vaccum or 6 volt battery? and i'm guess its a pull switch (like a choke cable) that is used to blow it, from what i can tell from demo man's picture

It was my understanding they would honk with the regular horn button, but used a pull cable to alter the tone.

My cow horn works separate from the stock horn. It has a lever like the turn signal. Cable runs to the horn. It is wired right to the six volt battery. You can make sick cow sounds all the way to the strong bull beller........ You can run the battery down too..........not speaking from experience ;-]
