Has any one tried to have new glass cut buy a
windsheild repair shop using the old glass for
a pattern or do you just buy from new parts dealers. Any help or advice welcome. I need all
glass for a 1951 standard cab.

I just called a shop about new windshield glass. They said they would cut and install using a steele rubber gasket that I supply for $190.00. I don't want to mess with it. I have heard it's difficult. I also have the stainless trim around it that I don't want to screw up.

Shipwright, have you tried to get parts from
Mile High Classics in Denver or heard good or

They have closed up their physical store, but still offer a few things on EbaY. I have heard good things about em but they were already closed up by the time I heard about em.

I bought my windshield from Chevy Duty for $42.00 per piece. Surprisingly, installing the windshield was one of the easiest things I have done on my truck.

Thanks for the ebay tip and the one from chevy duty. How much did chevy duty charge you for shipping and did you get tinted or clear glass.
Have you tried to do the doors or vent windows
they look like they will be fun

A local guy here will cut the class for $40 a piece, in my choice of clear or tinted green.. and i've heard very simular numbers from folks all over the country.

I'd reccomend replacing the rubber when you replace the glass.

I bought the patterns and then went searching for a local guy to cut my glass. After they picked me off the floor when I heard how much it would be, I purchased all the glass from The Filling Station.
I was very happy with the quality. and the price was the cheapest out of all the on-line sources.
Check to see if they have your year.

The windshield glass is pretty easy if it is cut to the right size and you have a good gasket. If it is too big or the gasket is too stiff you will have nothing but trouble. At least it is flat. A split window 3- window AD cab is about the cheapest you can get for window glass.

I installed my own, by myself. Not too hard once you figure it out, take your time and follow the shop manual directions.

I found the windshield glasses to be much easier to install than the rear glass.

The parts suppliers simply have their local glass shop cut the pieces they sell you. You'll save money and get the same thing if you have it done locally.

If I remember correctly, the shipping was $20-25 and I bought the clear glass. My truck has the one piece door window and it was easy to install after I drilled out the rusted screws ( which Chevy duty had too )The worst part was sanding the window frames.

I would agree with 50GMC253 on the rear window. If you replace it, save yourself some frustration and buy the tool. I didn't and spent about four frustrating hours installing it.

Fumblin46: Your lucky you could find a local guy. There was only one here in Salem and he wanted about $90.00 per piece

I just had the vent and side windows cut locally for my 52 GMC. I used the existing glass as the pattern and it worked great. The guys at the shop gave the old windows back just incase I ever need a pattern again. It cost about $40 per side window and $18 each for the vents and included new rubber gaskets.
