I noticed on a few signitures that some of you have trucks and an SBC. No not a Small Block a Small British Car.

Lets here it for the combo Chevy Truck and British Car.

Friends and I did a 283 with iron powerglide in a bugeye in the mid sixties, used a 55 Chev rear with only the right side narrowed and offset the engine the same distance to the right. Built a subframe over the transmission and down to the front suspension. It competed succesfully in gymkanas.

In my mind, the two seem to fit together. Both the vintage British sports car, and the old Stovebolt, require a similar devotion and appreciation to maintain. Both groups of vehicles have unique quirks, and are "out of the mainstream" within their classifications.

For what it's worth, I've been around owners' groups of various classic cars, and the MG guys and the Stovebolt guys are cut from the same cloth. Down to earth; willing to share their beer; and open to newcomers.

BTW, MOWOG is stamped on the side of every MG engine, including the one in my '66 MGB.

I've got a '60 Morgan. Though 20 years newer, the technology is no more than my '40 Chev. Maybe a bit less even. Lots of sensory feedback. grin

We have a 1950 Chevy 3100 that belonged to my wife's Grandfather. The 1980 MGB Convertible belonged to her Grandmother! smile
The MGB is running fine. Working on the truck now. Hope to crank it this weekend.

Glad to see I'm in such good company. The Bug Eye in my garage was bought by my brother when he got out of high school. While in university, the car stayed home and my dad used it to commute to work. After school, my brother didn't have the means to keep the car up, so my dad kept it. After he retired, it sat in my parents back yard for years. When my dad died, I decided to take over the little car, rather than let it get crushed. It's now still in pieces, but I have plans.... big plans.... Wish me luck.

Current fleet (subject to change w/o notice)
\'49 GMC 3/4-Ton , 60 Austin Healey Frog-eye Sprite (some assembly required), 2011 Dodge Avenger, 2015 Jeep Cherokee. No, they don't all run.
My other ride is a (B737)no, (B767)no, A320.... Update... was Embraer E190, now Boeing B787.

I have an 49 H.R.D. Touring B model- since 1977

my brother and I had a 60 bugeye that we had redone w/ a full racing (950)motor tilt reverse hood, cut the boot to fit us in behind the drivers seat, full racing harness, mohogany dash w/ all new gauges but kept the pull button starter, (& you bolters thought you have a KOOL foot starter), 5 speed MGBGT gearbox and rearend, disc up front and an 8 track tape player...

I have a 37 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup w/56 235 engine, body off frame right now, almost ready to paint it. Probably start that in next 2 weeks. Also have 52 MGTD, British Racing Green w/tan leather interior, runs great as long as I keep carbs balanced. Owned it since 1996, the 37 since 2001.
In fact, I even gave 51Jimmy (Cecil) a ride in it a couple months ago. He lives about 8 miles from me. Charles

Glad to hear from so many British Car fans. I think we should also start our own segment of Inliners International. I decided to jumo into the old truck hobby mostly because my Bugeye's technology is so close; inline 4 banger, breaker iginition, smoke filled wiring, nasty little transmission that requires double clutching so the gears don't grind and you have to be at a complete dead stop to get it back in to first, king pins that require acts of God to remove and brakes that require you to plan your stops pretty soon after you get under way. All that and I will have both my truck and my bugeye until the day I go to the great oil spot in the sky.

Glad I ran onto this thread! Just picked up a 1973 Triumph Spitfire to restore. Body in very good shape - motor and trans need help. Good to know Stovebolters that have this interest also.

My first car was a 1959 TR3 -- purchased in 1971 and I still have it. I bought my 1942 3/4 ton in May of this year. Wow -- if I was willing to tell the wife about the Stovebolt site, I could prove I'm not as sick as she thinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a '69 datsun roadster. It's kind of the poor man's Austin Healy. The design and some parts of the suspension and carburation were pilfered from British technology back when the Japanese were trying to break into the sports car scene. I think its a bit more reliable than British cars, but I still have to double clutch.

It's not a vintage anything, but I'm kind of attached to my 2002 Mini, and who only knows how many Stovebolts (and other old pickups) I've owned over the years. The newest was a '72, and the oldest was a '50, with representatives in every body style and every engine configuration Chevy and GM put out during those years. 2 speeds, 3 speeds, 4, and more speeds, manual and automatics, I love them all. It's also why I love helicopters--flying pickups! grin

Oh, and the 1:24 scale models of almost exclusively pickups!

I'd love to have my uncle's old MG midget, British racing green with factory rumble seat!

Didn't a lot of MG TDs have V8s dropped in em? Did they all get wrapped round trees? When I first moved here from England I was looking forward to owning one. But the only example I've ever seen for sale was a rustbucket.
