would like to ask you guys if there is any place to buy regular rims for my 53? it has 8 bolt lug pattern. started to look on e-bay and could not find. called coker tire and found wide white walls 6.5" x 15, but they told me they do not carry 8 bolt pattern. hope some of you bolters with more experience will know where to get or order them. i will be going to fall Carlisle here soon to look also. if any one knows would appreciate it. thanks

There are quite a few threads on this issue. The basic problem is finding a rim that will clear the front tie rod ends. Some have used trailer rims.

I used a 8 lug Chevy/Dod**/ F**d style rim with a 3/16 thick spacer ring and modern lug nuts. Just clears the rod ends and no problems in 16,00 miles.

Junkyards.. thats where i'd check first.

Find some old rims, get 'em sandblasted then painted or powdercoated.

an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.

I just got 4 16x6 wheels from Stockton Wheel in Stockton California. They worked out great. Kind of pricy, and a long lead time, but they'll make you a wheel with any backspacing you want.

They also offer a service to cut the centers out of your stock wheels, and weld them into modern rims. Keep your hubcaps, and run tubeless radials. Pretty cool.

Anyway I searched for years to find a 16" 8-lug wheel to fit my 52 1-ton. Finally got sick of looking.

I did the same as you did on my '53 3/4 ton, Blacksmithdon, with no problems. I got the D***e wheels for free off a friends '72 C/20. The radials cost $2 apeice at a swapmeet. The spacers were $18 at NAPA.

Sandblasted and repainted the rims. The tires look good with decent tread.

The ride with the radials is nice. Looks nice, too.

If anyone goes this route be sure to check the space between the tie-rod end and the edge of the rim. I have about three-eighths inch of clearance using the original style tie-rods. No sign of any contact between the two on mine.

Safety first - always.

Rick
