The basic problem is finding a rim that will clear the front tie rod ends. Some have used trailer rims. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 62 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 62 | I used a 8 lug Chevy/Dod**/ F**d style rim with a 3/16 thick spacer ring and modern lug nuts. Just clears the rod ends and no problems in 16,00 miles. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,682 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,682 | Junkyards.. thats where i'd check first.
Find some old rims, get 'em sandblasted then painted or powdercoated.
an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.

They also offer a service to cut the centers out of your stock wheels, and weld them into modern rims. Keep your hubcaps, and run tubeless radials. Pretty cool.
Anyway I searched for years to find a 16" 8-lug wheel to fit my 52 1-ton. Finally got sick of looking.

I got the D***e wheels for free off a friends '72 C/20. The radials cost $2 apeice at a swapmeet. The spacers were $18 at NAPA.
Sandblasted and repainted the rims. The tires look good with decent tread.
The ride with the radials is nice. Looks nice, too.
If anyone goes this route be sure to check the space between the tie-rod end and the edge of the rim. I have about three-eighths inch of clearance using the original style tie-rods. No sign of any contact between the two on mine. Safety first - always.
