On all of our trucks we are missing a knob, and I am not sure what it is supposed to be. On the dash below the ashtray there is spots for three knobs...

What are the correct knobs and order, and what is the one closest to the glovebox supposed to be? None of the trucks that we have looked at have it. I am sure that if I did some research I would find out, but I it came to mind at the moment.

do you have a pix. could it be that someone drilled the holes and just never installed gauges.Fred

On my '46 I have the Key, Choke, Throttle, and Cigarette lighter right above the ash tray.

Directly below the ashtray, I have some sort of cross brace/support attached to the dash with two "acorn nuts".. just to the left of that is the lever that opens the vent right in front of the windsheild.

I assume yours is a canadian truck, so who knows if they were set up different than US trucks.. but my first guess would be heater controls.

Even in U.S. trucks, there dosen't seem to be a "standard" spot for heater controls to be mounted.

In my '46 the control switches for the heater are under the dash below the headlight switch.. in both the '50 trucks I have, the heater controls are located at the bottom of the dash in the area below the ashtray.

My 46 only has two knobs. the one on the left is the choke and the right one is for the throttle, which I hooked up the the control valve I added to my heater. Originally it only had a valve on the water pump that you are supposed to turn on in the winter and off in the summer.

Your extra hole may have been added for a heater control. Just a guess.

Fumblin's correct. The 3rd hole is for a lighter. Choke and throttle for the first 2. Underneath is a small 3 position switch which turns on or off the dash lights when the running/or headlights are on. Or you can put on a light over the throttle, choke and lighter area. Be careful with the switch, it's delicate. You did mean to say "above" the ashtray, right?

I know that it is not a spot that has been drilled out. The dash is moulded there to accomodate the T and the C, but there is a third moulding that is empty on both of ours, my dads, and 2 others that we have looked at. There is no switch... there is no nothing just a moulding in the dash with a hole in it beside the T and the C

Tempest. If you want, take a look at my link below. There is one picture of the interior of my 46. I don't see anything "below the ashtray". However, if you look at the picture, Fumblin is right. ABOVE the ashtray is the Key switch, the Throttle, Choke, and Cigar lighter.

I don't have my Cigar lighter filament in place in the picture, but you can see the socket is there, and the dash is molded as you say, for the socket to sit in it.

The switch K10 is talking about is under the instrument cluster, to the right of the steering column. I don't think you can see it in the picture, but it's there. It's a 3-position sliding switch. To the left turns on the gauge lights. Center position is off, and to the right lights a light over the throttle, choke, and lighter.

If you'd like a better picture, I'd be glad to oblige.

You have gotten a bunch of answers to your question... may I ask, what year is your truck??

My trucks are 41 to 46 series. Sorry, I meant above the ashtray not below. And yes that your picture helps, but I can't see how the cigar lighter/filament would fit into the hole in the third moulded spot.

Tempest, I'm not betting the ranch on it, but I believe the older lighters are typically smaller than what you find in later model vehicles. I know there is a difference between what is in my 46, and what is in my 2001.

Here's a shot of my dash. You can just make out the switch to the right of the choke. It's an aftermarket switch for the heater. Don't know if it was a 'blank' from manufacture or not.

That third hole usually has a chrome looking "blank" in it when the optional lighter isn't installed.

I've seen folks use this hole for lots of things, usually aftermarket accessories or a handy spot to put a switch or lever.. but it's a cigarette lighter hole.. you either got one, or you dont.
