My truck is "done" and it took just under two years. But I am not happy with the steering. I have CPP's power assist steering installed and opted to keep the original steering wheel. There is too much play and the steering box has been adjusted to the max.

I wanted to change to a 15 inch steering wheel and install a steering stabilizer kit. When I called to order, Chevy Duty says that there will be a 1 inch gap between the replacement wheel and adapter kit. They pretty much indicated I would not be happy with their product.

LMC looks like they have the same product. I would like to know what others have done that changed theirs out.

Something you might consider is using a passenger car steering wheel. They are generally smaller than trucks. The ones from the same time period will have the same dia. at the base so will match your steering column. There are some being reproduced or you might find a good used one. GMs should all have the same spline. Someone with more complete knowledge will be able to fully answer this, though.

I've heard there is a company out there that will make your original steering wheel smaller, but it costs a bit.

Did you upgrade all the tie rod ends? If not, you might be able to tighten up the steering by upgrading to modern tie rod ends and adding an adjustable drag link made from two male tie rods and a tie rod adjustment sleeve. There are some threads on that here.
