There where a few discussions a while back about tire size for the 1/2 ton AD. I was raving about my new Bridgestones but didnt have pics.

I went with the equivalent of the optional 6.50 - 16, a 10 ply, 215/85/16 radial. Definitely a 'truck' tire. I love them...

Inflatable to 80 psi, I run 40 for comfort and the sidewalls are still straight. Nice, tall sidewall, too. It bumped the speed a good 5 mph (30,25 inches in diameter - from 27,75)

A vintage looking tire that transformed the truck's look and handling:

I also took the trim rings off.

I've never seen a more beautiful truck, great job! Your tires do look perfect and being a name brand is a nice touch. I also think it looks much better without the trim rings. I'm wondering if you have tubes inside the tires and what you had to pay for the Bridgestones?

I visited your site to see more pics and noted the color chips with great interest. I was surprised the yukon yellow looks more orange than yellow, while omaha orange looks more red than orange. Is this correct or am I not seeing the true colors? My 55 1st is juniper green which I like very much, but I've dreamed of orange for years and am debating if I should change colors since I need to repaint the entire truck anyway. I've seen a few bright yellow trucks and assumed they were yukon yellow but now I'm not so sure the orange color I prefer may actually be called yukon yellow.

I would appreciate it if anyone else who reads this post that has a truck painted yukon yellow or omaha orange would provide the privilege of a look-see.

Thanks for sharing!

50GMC, check out this other chart (57-58):
http://autocolorlibrary.com/cgi-bin/search/searchpic.pl?1957-chevrolettruck-pg01.jpg

If the yellow is orangish and the orange is redish...
The would'nt the green be relish? smile

The Bridgestone are not cheap.
The R273 SwP II retails for 141$US...
I run them tubeless.

whizzerick, i also went with blackwall 215/85-16's for my 53 gmc 1/2 ton. they look like a serious truck tire. i kept the rings though.
i also went a bit on the cheap side with kumho truck tires but they ride and look great and so do yours!

whizz, great looking truck. Like it much better without the trim rings.

old_blue, what's the model of the Kumho tires? Got any pics? I just put Kumho tires on my wife's van and really like 'em. They were a bargain at $47 from Tire Rack.

Relish would be right! I'm amazed to see that yukon yellow is actually orange, now I finally know for certain which color to get. $141 each is a steep price but so is everything else! Thanks. cool

Yukon Yellow was an update in '53 of the former Armour Yellow. The Yukon is supposed to comply with the National School Bus Standard for Chrome Yellow. Here\'s yet another chart where the hues look slightly different.

It's Forester Green (or a very close match)...

Whizzer, the tires are cool and I also like the look without the trim rings, even the black mirrors look classic. Your truck looks like it just rolled out of the G.M. plant, simply awesome. If you took these pictures in black and white it would be 1953 all over again.

One question though, are your rims split and if not where did you find them?

samcs,
they are the standard 16'' you'll find on the 1/2 truck.
The tall tires gives it a 3/4 - 1 ton look...

Great move on relieving the trim rings of duty. Good angle on the later picture shows off the truck better. Better lighting too. That's a classic classic truck. smile
