Tapered wheel bearings seem to go for about $175 per truck set...does anyone know an actual manufacturer's name and the bearing #'s used? I have the option of buying these things at a discount bearing place, if I knew which numbers I need.

I have checked all of the bearing dimensions for the ball type front wheel bearings and researched a bearing cat. and did not find any direct replacement roller bearings. This was done for a 1954 1/2 ton. I suspect that spacers are used to make up the difference.

Anyone who has used the conversion bearings will be able to verify the bearing numbers as well as the use of a spacer.

I found 2 repro places that list roller bearings for my task force trucks, but haven't found anybody so far that knows the manufacturers #'s for them, and have tried using the ball bearing dimensions at a number of places w/ no luck. the rollers will be more expensive no matter, but should be at least 20- 30% less from a bearing supplier. got one last place working on it . . .

Thanks for your help, guys - the company I work for buys ALOT of bearings, and the bearing supplier we use said he would put some effort into trying to locate #'s if we had dimensions; I'll try to measure mine and see what he can do Thanks again!

We just did a disk brake conversion from Chevy Duty that came with tapered bearings (great kit). If I had their catalog with me, I'd check - you might see what they could give you. I'm pretty sure they sell the tapered bearings by themselves as well.

Recently installed roller bearings on my 56 3100... Chevy Duty Part # 73-031 ('47-59 inner), $45.95ea; 73-061 (47-57 outer) $29.95ea; 73-111 (47-59 grease seal) 6.95ea

Mfg numbers off the parts: MBS (Japan): Inner bearing race: 909052R; outer race: 909001R

Part of the agony of this bearing fiasco is the $$$ issue. As Larry Bear indicates, the outer wheel bearing and race for ONE side is $29.95. I don't have the cup (race) price, but a brand new Timken bearing (cone) is $6.99 at your FLAPS! My guess on the cup would be $3.50.

I think you are paying for their R&D and packaging..this is probably OK, but WOW, what a markup.

I have all the bearings I need but wil be guessing when i put everything together. Anybody out there have some tip, instruction, photos or hints?

I don't know if you need a blow by blow on the bearing installation..is it improper to tag something like this onto this thread?

Your pictures indicate you have tons of work ahead of you on the front axle and brakes, is the bearing retrofit down the line a touch.

Thanks to all for your replies. I was just trying to get that high price down. I apologize for my slow reply...I was off for a front end alignment on my twice broken nose. Functional not cosmetic. Thanks - Scott
