Okay Fellas, So here's the real scoop. Joe Schmoe is my husband and I am the computer nerd. We have been together for 10 years, going to every car show we could go to. He is a great guy, but he has an ADDICTION towards early 50's Chevy Trucks. Our vacations have been spent driving through hoedunks, not looking at scenery, but searching for the elusive old Chevy truck that someone had forgotten in their barn. Buying a restored vehicle was out of the question!!! No exaggerations here.

He FINALLY found what he was looking for.... and now I am a garage widow. No Biggie, I love this guy!!! You would too....

Here's the problem..... he really needs help with "what is the best swap for a 1950 rear end that has disc brakes?"

... I don't understand the question myself, but I do know how to use a message board.... and someone here KNOWS the answer.

Could someone please HELP me get this info to him???? We are a dynamite couple.. his love of Chev PU's and me at the computer=happy couple.... I will continue to check here. I am just a chick who loves her Chevy man, and trying to get him some answers.... Please can anyone please, please help????
TANKS!!

thanks thanks thanks!!!! You can't imagine how happy this makes me to give him the info. Most likely I will be the one posting and reading since I also have an addictive personality .... I also love these old trucks, but I enjoy the net more.

He just purchased two non runners... and enough parts to "possibly" get one truck restored. It's been 10 years of looking so I am so happy for him!!! Thank you again for your kindness!!

1981 Camaro/firebird rear axle is the correct width and comes with disc brakes. Modifications to the spring perches will be required. To my knowledge there is no direct bolt in option. If the disc brake requirement is flexible then any 74-81 GM F-body (camaro style) will work well. This is what I have used on my 54. The flange to flange width you are looking for is 60". I have heard that lincoln rear axles are also used in this swap but I am not sure which years are applicable. Check out this link for more information.

again, thanks b 2 u !! Was that written in the English Language (??) because it is foreign to me... BUT, He will know cause he is joe schmoe. (joe is his real name, and although he says that it's ME who thinks she knows everything.... he does know his mechanics... i think!!)

He will be so happy to hear the replies. He posted late last night and by 5:30 AM, he had already asked me 3 times, if anyone had written to him!!!! what a screwball!!! Does this behavior go hand in hand with Chevy Truck Addiction???

Thanks again.... See you on the dirt roads. (In my beautiful 1978 VW Microbus!!! that's my vice!) ciao .. gaylyn
