The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop Still Befuddled Casting #

It was warm enough for me to get out to the 40 today and finally pull the starter motor and find the casting number. A290 is cast into the engine. thats all I can find! I'm pretty sure there should be a whole lot more numerals around here somewhere. I hate to keep beating this horse but I'm at a loss. Should I pull the side panels and look under them? I am a novice but I really am becoming fustrated with this casting number hunt. I'd rather be making progress getting this beast started. Ron

I think A290 is a casting date number A=January,29=day,and 0=the decade being 1940 I may be wrong but thats what I think,anyone else have a idea. :confused: :confused:

Thanks Guys If your right Bid then it has to be a 216 since it is in fact original and that answers my question. But there are so many orphan hoses and pipes I'm amazed that the engine is original. Well my quest goes on.
