I have a 53 5 window, and I once saw on a web site a flush mount gas cap that was located in the stock location on the cab. I can't seem to find it again. Does anybody know who may sell this gas cap or where the web site might be?

They looked really cool and it saved all the work of re-locatign the tank.

Hi, Try haganstreetrods.com they offer a few different flush mount fuel doors. I'm sure they offer something you could make work. A little pricey, but looks like quality stuff. John

airride technologies has one called cool cap, pricey 60.00 for cap and 60.00 for flanger to make it flush. just finished putting mine on my fender. go to my community webshots and look at 0112 to see if that is what you want. www.ridetech.com RON

It may seem that moving the gas tank is alot of trouble, but your interior is always going to smell like gas if you don't move it

Since you have had one in hand, do you think that gas cap would work in the stock hole position on the cab?

Right now I don't want to go through the work and expense to move the tank to the back. I don't want to move fuel lines, new filler set up, mount full cap/door in the bed or fender? Do you need to install a fuel pump if you bringing the gas from the rear?

I do like the added room that moving the gas tank would create (speakers, tools, a place to put a coat, ect...)

Right now I just want to clean up the look of the filler tube and cap on the cab.

If your cab smells like gas, your gas tank is either leaking, or you spilled some down the filler neck.

No gas tank should smell like gas, regardless of where it is.

From another thread on this board, it seems the biggest reason folks move the tank is to add space for storage in the cab, especially in the AD trucks with the tank behind the seat.

If it leaks, you get used to it. It really shouldn't leak though.

53fivewindow, just went out and took a good look at the old mounting place, it looks like the cap would fit with or without the flanger. i would suggest you try it without flanging. the instruction say it would work on a slightly crowned panel. RON

If it's leakin' i'd guess moving it (or replacing it) would be a good idea!

Folks talk about moving their tanks for a few reasons.. to add space in the cab, or to increase the fuel capacity (bigger tank under the bed) but i've not heard any strong argument to suggest moving a tank (that's in good condition) would make the vehicle any more safe.

Thank you for the information and your time. I will buy it without the flange and see how it works. I will let you know what the result is and send you a picture when I complete it. It may be a while because my cab is off and it needs some work and some paint. No need to put a new cap on a work in progress (horse before the cart saying).
