The Crane kits looks to be very nice (and the price is good). Do they have a kit for 6 cylinder engines; 6 volt systems?
Here is what they have on their website:
Crane Cams XR-i Ignition Conversion Systems - The Crane XR-i is a unique electronic point conversion system that not only replaces the points and condenser but includes the complete electronic module and adjustable rev limiter in a compact package. This package easily installs on the distributor point plate and does not require magnets or a trigger wheel. It simply triggers off the point cam lobes. GM applications include a module for CW rotation and one for CCW rotation distributors. The V-8 Ford is CCW only. Applications are as follows:
Part No. 750-1700 1959-74 Ford V-8
Part No. 750-1710 1957-74 Chevy V-8 / 1957-74 Buick V-8
Part No. 750-1720 1955-81 Pontiac V-8 / 1967-Up Olds V-8

| | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 | I've been using a Pertronix 12v kit in a 261 for 7 years and a 6v kit in a 235 for two years (about $75 each). There have been no problems and the engines start right up.
I wish they sold (or provided) the protective diode (for surges) that they recommend. It is not available in less than 100 units.
The installation of this kit is very easy (two parts) - Wrenchbender's kit is easier (one part, it looks like) but, as he said, not available for 216/235/261.
As stated by Bill, people have posted that they have burned out Pertronix units and they recommend carrying a set of points/condensor. I've always carried a spare set of points and condensor (and distributor tool) whether I used points or the Pertronix units.
