I have heard a suburban tank of the same year will fit but they are scarce in this part of the country. | | | | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 476 Moderator | Moderator Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 476 | This has been discussed before. Search the archives and see what you find. I seem to recall somebody finding a plastic one at the tractor supply or farm store that was just right.
I found a replacement tank for my '47 panel from another 'bolter by carefully combing the swap meet. $50.00 and I met a great guy.

BTW, Joe is the great guy I was talking about.

I bought an 80's blazer tank that would require removing the rear most crossmember (holds 26 gallons) but decided against it and had a buddy make me a custom one out of polished stainless steel. | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Blu64, I don't know about your particular model but I was visiting a buddy of mine yesterday who has a 49 pickup and he used a tank out of a chevy van.((70's to mid 80"s??) I believe he said it was a 20 or 22 gal tank. He only cut a small piece out of one of the cross members near the chassis where the tank corners could go up some and the rest of the tank would be flush with rest of the crossmember. It sure was snug and looked good. The cost....$20. I may try one in my 37?....just FYI. | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 272 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 272 | I just recieved a GOLDEN STATE catalog and they show only inside fuel tank. Do they list the one or two line sendor instead of the three and four style? I know I could modify one to work if need be. Scott | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 2 Junior Member | Junior Member Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 2 | I'm using a F**d mustang tank on my 53 3600. Fit is easy if you move the back crossmember. Mine is a flatbed, so I don't have to screw around with putting the fill hose thru bed...... mine will go out the back below flatbed. If you have a regular bed, I've seen 'em mount a fill door in the fender, but that certainly wouldn't look original........... kinda depends on what you want. My main concern was getting the tank out of the cab. | | | | Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 112 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 112 | In reply to the mustang tank... I have one of these on hand but wasn't sure how to wire the gauge. Any help? Thanks for your reply. | | |
