Hello everyone,
Just joined the Stovebolt. Trying to get more info on the 1955 Chevy Pickup Series One I just bought. I have been to several web pages, plugged in my VIN ID and get different results.
Can anyone tell me more or any info on the following VIN?

J550006188? This is on the Title and the inter door.

Thansks Mike

Welcome to the Stovebolt Mike.

I don't completely trust vin numbers anymore. A '55 1st should have a curved windshield and an open driveline (first year on half-tons). It should also have the '54-55 only grill, push button door handles and wing windows.

I believe J means 3/4-ton and 55 means 1955. It should have a wheel base of 125 inches and have 8-lug hubs if its a 3/4.

I believe the 4th character will tell you where it was made, but don't recall the code for that part...

1955 1st GMC Suburban | 1954 GMC 250 trailer puller project | 1954 GMC 250 Hydra-Matic | 1954 Chevy 3100 . 1947 Chevy COE | and more...
It's true. I really don't do anything but browse the Internet looking for trouble...

Also, you have the 6,188th truck off that assembly line (006188).

Hi,
thanks for the info, I will have to check out all the parts, as the truck is in about a thousand parts in boxes. The owner started the restoration and couldn't finish it. Everything is in good shape, I just need to figure out what it is first. I will check the hubs first, but I guess it could be a different rear and front end also. No glass in the front windshield.

OldYeller55, poke around in the gallery... click the link at the top of the page. There are several trucks like yours up there...

as for the window glass - the '47-'53 had two piece glass with a post in the center - '54-'55 had a whole piece of glass... so if yer windshield is out, it shoudl be one big happy roundish/oval hole...
