I had no way to move the truck up the one more inch or so necessary to release the ratchet on the come-along.
It was in that position for about an hour before a solution presented itself (we ended up pulling the truck up the ramp with another truck). | | | | | Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 2,384 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 2,384 | I have used two come-alongs to avoid that, also adds some safety, then use the come-along to bind the truck down w/chain for the trip home. I let some guys use my trailer to haul a dead car. They forgot to hit the brakes when they got it up on the trailer (4 or 5 guys pushing) and busted up all the front end plastic on the front of my trailer. Didn't hurt the trailer, but turned the car from a fixer upper to not worth fixing.

I'd set the trailer on the front hitch, and then use the winch to drag the load onto the trailer. It was a great arrangement if you were doing a one-man load opperation.
Unfortunately my dad sold both the trailer and the truck with the winch about 30 years ago.

Did the come-along nonsense for far too long! I sold trailers for several years, and when I built and designed my own trailer, I decided it would have a large electric winch on the front as part of the design. It's an 18' wood deck flat (16'+2' steel dovetail). Hauled a 1950 Dodge B-2-HHA (2-ton dually) from central Nebraska to central Oklahoma on it, and that winch was worth its weight in gold that day, I tell ya!!!

the repo man we use at work will meet me there with a flatbed tow truck, and drop it off at my house for $50 to cover the fuel.
that seems to be the best solution i could come up with :-P

Tie a cable to the front of the pulling vehicle and across the trailer to the car you are loading. You have a clear view of the car you are pulling up onto the trailer. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 926 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 926 | I loaded my last one using a CAT 966 loader with forklift arms;easy, and,if you're careful where you run the forks, easy on the vehicle you're loading, plus, you can set the car/truck onto a 2-1/2 ton flatbed without having to worry it up a big ol' set of ramps. Gravity will handle the unloading part of the exercise.(A loading dock is better for the vehicle's health) James | | |
