Hi gang! I just bought a digital camera and one of the reasons I wanted it was because I see stovebolts all over around where I live, some for sale others that have been sitting there for a long time and could likely be had for a price. What I was wondering is this. I'm thinking about taking pictures of them, inserting text into the pic regarding sale price, contact number, address, location, etc. and posting them somewhere here on the site. I need to know how to do this without using up too much bandwidth and where on the site would be the appropriate place to put them. I was thinking about the available stovebolts forum but I don't want to put too many pics in there and tie things up. Any feedback? cool

yer right, ya don't wanna put the images right on the page, that's discouraged cuz of the bandwidth issue, but also cuz lots here are still on dialup, and they don't have the bandwidth either!

you'd hafta put them on a host someplace and then just put a link to'em from here [the stovebolt spotting alert would be the spot] so we can click up ones we might be interested in

Bill

So do I have to build a website on Geocities or something like that and upload the pictures and create links and all that?

you'll hafta upload the pics someplace! there's a number of places that just host pics for free - do a google for 'free picture hosting' - I think some here use webshots, but don't know if it's free, and there's many others - the free personal website places frequently don't let ya just link pics, they want traffic to their site for the adverts - linking the pics here is easy, using the 'URL' button on the reply page

the other possibility is maybe your ISP provides some space for their users to have a homepage - some do, and that's even easier to set up

Bill
and if you need a hand w/ a personal web page, lemme know - easy to set up a simple one

Thanks! I'll give that a shot. If I run into any obstacles I'll give you a holler.

Hey Red58,
I just tried it (I set up an account on webshots) and put a thread in 'stovebolt spotting' for a 63 c-10 I found. Wanna check it out and see if I did it right?
Thanks,
David

BTW, Webshots does have a free version supported by ads, etc. but I went ahead and signed up for the premium version. It's only 30 bucks a year and I can use it for my family stuff and post up to 3000 pics.
