I know that the engine colors for the '40 216 is grey (Thanks to Barry), but what about the bellhousing and trans. I was reading the "How to Restore your Chevrolet Pickup" book, and it showed a pic where the trans and bell were also gray... I was thinking black. Well what is it???
Help me out again guys.

Kevin,

According to the info Bob Alder sent me, the bell housing is gray the same color as the engine, and the tranny is not painted. So, you could leave it to rust up nice without any paint, you could clear coat it, paint it with that aluminum color paint it or paint it black as I am sure many of them were upon their first rebuild.

Good luck on your project!

Thanks Jim! Since I already painted the trans I may leave it black. But the bell I will repaint to gray since I'm waiting on the machine work to be done on the engine I will paint them together.
You live close... did you go to the swap meet in Pomona yesterday? I got an original horn there. That will complete my engine build! grin

Thanks again.
Kevin cool

Kevin,

No, I didn't go. I love that place but I only hit that show a couple of times each year. I really like the Long Beach show and go there more often.

I have ended up doing better with parts on ebay. The shipping can get expensive, but I think many sellers back east let stuff go fairly cheap. At least the older guys I have bought from.

I hope you get a chance to check out my Website. It has a lot of pictures of my truck. I hope to see you at one of the shows soon. Did you make it to the Brothers show in Anaheim this past August? It was a nice show.

Take care!
