Instead, I went and found a longer speedo cable and installed as well as a new driven gear. Haven't had a speedo since removing the 4spd for T5 conversion. Seems accurate, the rpms match the speedo pretty close. There's always tomorrow to check compression. I've been saying that for a long time. Maybe therein lies my problem! Ah well, maybe I'll have good 'cause and reason to build the 225hp 292 I've been thinking of. -David

This guy has been tirekicking like he was spending big money or something. Geez, buy it already. I need the dang money. Maybe I can spend a little money on the truck if I sell it. It sure will help clear the driveway some. Washed it, shined it, did the dang windows, again...

Did that late yesterday. I was feeling pretty good, so I decide to replace the spacer between the carb and the intake manifold -- it was broken in two places and cracked in a third! That could explain a few things...
So, feeling like John the Master Mechanic, I filled the antifreeze and water back in the JD 420 and tried to start it (the one I've been slowly trying to repair since it hit a tree back in the spring) -- no joy. no spark at the plugs. Could the coil have gone bad? I might borrow the coil out of the '49 and try that later today if I get all my farmwork done I need to do.
Happy Sunday! -- beautiful, clear and cold day here on the Mid Atlantic Coast! I've been up since about 0630 working on new Links and redesigning the Homepage (the site is getting a makeover/refresh for 2005 to celebrate our 10th year) and now I'm sick of sitting infront of the computer and I want to go play outside.

I did take The Coupe With a Truck Block (TCWATB) out for a spin down the freeway after drilling out a broken intake manifold bolt... got it up to 105 on the I-15.

It is now spot welded in place and the rebuilt shackle is back on the truck. The next step is to replace the inner and outer corners, door post bottoms and rocker panel on that side. Then it will amtch the other side!

Got about half of the gas tank (that I bought from toomany2count) wire wheeled. The brackets are sandblasted and primed, but not painted. I decided it was too cold to spray them, so I had to content myself with looking at them and setting them aside for either a warmer day or a day when it's cold enough to fire up the heater in the garage.
Then I played hookey from working on the truck and went out to Scott's place (48bigtrucks) another thing I've been putting off for months. Got the tour of his facilities (he called it his dream shop, but it looked to me like MY dream shop!) and got to see the work he's been doing on his '63, as well as his other truck and facilities projects.
Sunday, back to homework. One cool thing, though, during church the number went up on the monitor that means "volunteers needed in the nursery". So I went in there and ended up picking Joanne up off the floor. She's a Down's Sundrome baby and not walking yet. The best she could do was push herself along the floor on her face because she doesn't seem to have the strength to keep her head up. We sat in a rocking chair and played, I sang to her a lot and found out that she's a kisser. Big, sloppy, tongue out, wet ones. (I think she has trouble keeping her tongue in.) She can also say "I love you". I'm sure that's what it was... OK, it sounded more like "ah va va", but I'll take it as I see it. I think I need to go in there more often...

| | | | Anonymous Unregistered | Anonymous Unregistered | My project for the weekend was to get the doors refitted to the cab. The doors came from the original cab and the hinges are a mishmash from other trucks so I was not expecting the doors to fit right off and I was not disappointed in this. I concentrated on the driver door first and rebuilt the lower hinge then with the door in place I heated up the hinge bend to pull the leading edge inward and bent it in. This worked fine but it identified that my outer cowl replacement does not fit the door curve so I will have to re-adjust or redo the cowl panel (patch panel nightmare lesson one - have doors in place when doing panel replacements such as cowl or outer cab corners)
I started the rebuilt of the top hinge but had the drill bit break off inside the old pin which drew the days efforts to a close.
The passenger side looks like the rear cab panel I replaced may need to be modified slightly to obtain the appropriate door gap. That should be fun but next weekend is Pheasant and old truck hunting time so the doors will have to wait.

The Mopar club I'm in had our annual Mopar-only show Saturday here in OKC. We had 87 cars and trucks, including three Hemicudas, a Satellite ragtop converted to a Superbird ragtop (never made from the factory, of course!) with a 528" HEMI, a sweet '64 Polara Max Wedge car, and other really top-quality Mopars.
Mowed the yard and played with the son's '46 a little on Sunday.

Sunday early, off to the swap meet. Did ok, made back the space rent and put $80.00 in the kitty for truck parts. Not too much interest in the '41. I will get the photos posted and put it on the swap meet soon. The '39 towed that 1/2 ton great, I did not know it was back there until I came to a stop. Stopped ok, but could feel the weight pushin'. | | | | Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 255 Member | Member Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 255 | I finished mounting my new front tires on the 48 after painting the wheels (safety wheels). I had a problem starting the 48 a few days ago and figured that the fuel pump was to blame. I still had the electric pump installed but not plumbed that came in the truck so I hooked it up to keep running. I have always suspected that the electric fuel pump was overpowering my carb float and running gas straight into the block and this was comfirmed in short order. I hadnt driven the truck a couple of days when I noticed that I was burning more oil than usual and my oil pressure was low. I could see that the oil was thin. I replaced the pump with a spare and disconnected the electric pump, changed the oil and off we go again. The new tires in front really made a difference in the truck ride and steering. That was about it for the stovebolt work. I am trying to get things running well for the Independance Day parades. Ralph

Cute small-town parade and the truck was a hit!
However, the days before were emergency repair time... new front brake pads then an outer wheeel bearing let go. All's well now.
