Hiya folks.

My dad has a '53 chevy truck, see pics and information here:

http://hardin.home.mindspring.com/1953/1953.html

So... he wants to have the metal, 6 lug rusty metal wheels sandblasted, prepped and painted so that he can get tires.

So he is looking for a reputable shop in the area here... Atlanta, GA - Tucker, GA - Dekalb, Gwinnett counties area - that does that sort of work.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you.

Have you consdiered powdercoating the blasted rims? If you're in a metro area you should be able to find someone to do it. Not much more expensive than a good pro paint job (as opposed to the rattle can special). Long-lasting with a low chip factor. Wish I lived in a bigger city!

Powdercoatin' might be fine - but still need a shop to blast them/ knock the rust off somehow.

A lot of times powder coaters and chromers want to do their own prep work to guarantee a good coat, so find a coater first and they will either blast them or recommend someone to do it.

Not sandblasting but check your phone book for a place there in Atl called Unpaint. They do chemical stripping that removes paint and rust. Did a lot of the pieces on the 59.

Hmn. I'm in Tucker... is that the official name of the place? Any ideas where it might be?

I haven't found their ph. # yet. I even looked in the business phone book... the yellwo pages online, etc.. - no rust busters yet.

thx,

Rustbusters

No space between rust and busters.

Sounds like a lot of expense just for the rims. Yer worrying to much about it. Just do it yourself with some course grit sandpaper and epoxy paint.

Tab,
this is Dad's truck... it's what he wants to do at the moment. smile Also, he doesn't have a shop, just a little barn shed and the patio. He's been getting over various health problems also, so I think he just wants this part done with.

I'm in the process of spray painting my own wheels semi-gloss black to look spiffy with my 'new to me' hubcaps.

thanks very much everyone for all of the tips and replies...

dawgsfan2755 - thanks for the rust busters tip

Jeff - thanks for the URL - I guess I was searching for the wrong thing.
