I'm looking to buy a late '40's to mid 50's pickup to use as a daily driver. Seen a lot of 5-window trucks for sale on the internet lately, but need to know whether there is enough space between the driver/passenger side windows and the curved side/rear windows in these models to install an aftermarket 3-point harness-type seat belt. In the pictures, there appears to be little if any space between these windoes. Thanks!

The belt panel below the windows would be the only place you could put a bolt through. I would have two concerns, (1) the sheetmetal may not be strong enough to offer real safety, (2) the panel is so low the shoulder strap may be very uncomfortable. Go slow and don't crash.

Are you committed to the stock seat? Some guys have used a recent Buick seat that has intregral shoulder belts.

Have them in my five window. Work well. My only concern is having a head on collision. That steering column is plenty lethal. I would like to think I could duck to the right if I saw it coming.

MJ-

Search the archives as this topic has been hit before several times. Lots of good examples of 3 point belts in AD cabs. Juliano's makes a kit and has good info online for installation, but you do not have to make it so hard. GMC trucks have an existing hole about ear level on the door side of the pilar. Keep us posted.

My favorite install, which should be located in the archives, involved a reinforcement plate and the upper pivot installed on the edge of the corner window frame.
