I just had an experience while trying to return a part and I have to tell somebody about it. I bought a clutch fork boot from Chevy Duty and it does not fit my bell housing. I need it to fit an early 50's bellhousing but it is too big. I called Chevy Duty and was connected to the tech line. The guy looked up the part number and said it should fit 47 through 72 bell housings. He also said that no one else had ever said this part did not fit and then he said "Are you sure it is not you?". I'm not sure what that means but it was pretty rude. I went out and measured all of the bell housings that I have and the early 50's have an opening of 1" x 3-1/2" while a newer housing (1967) has an opening of 1-3/4" x 4" which is the same size as the boot that was delivered to me. I called Chevy Duty again and got their return line. A friendly voice asked "How may I help you?". When I said that I wanted to return an item the lady with the friendly voice immediately got a snotty attitude. I gave her my name and zip code and she said "Are you sure that you ordered it from us?". I said "Yes, I ordered it just last week". I explained what the problem was and finally she gave me a return authorization number. I said "thanks for your help." and she hung up on me without saying Bye or anything. Now I don't think that I am over sensitive or anything, but I was surprised at the attitudes that I encountered. I have been a customer for over ten years and have ordered hundreds of dollars worth of parts from Chevy Duty and have always been happy with their products.
Enough of my whining. Has anyone had a problem with returning things or did I just catch them on a bad day?
Also, has anyone had a problem with getting a clutch fork boot being the wrong size?

I ordered a headlight holder (the bowl shaped object behind the seal beam) from Chevy Duty and it definately was a later model than mine so I called and talked to the Tech department. They gave me a number and I returned the item and drew a picture as how it should be and put it in the box. They sent me the right one and a check for the return postage. I think someone just had a bad day. Usually they are very nice. You will get a lot of flack from people in this world. Don't take it personal. There may be some people that you may make mad without meaning to. As the old saying goes, "Take it with a grain of salt." You'll live longer.

Brad-After completing a 1 1/2 year frame off restoration on my 56, and Chevy Duty being my main supplier (literally thousands of dollars spent with them), I did not experience any of the problems you did. I,also, had to return a few items that for whatever reason, would not work on my truck, but always was treated with respect and given class A customer service. I often spoke with Angie (Extension 245) at Chevy Duty, and she was extremely helpful and courtious. If you are treated rudely, you should call back and ask to speak with a supervisor to resolve the problem--right then! There are too many parts suppliers out there to treat their customers in the manner you describe.

I too have ordered many parts from CD and have found them to always be very nice even when I was wrong. Anthony in the tech dept. went out of his way to help me with a carb nightmare.
I would also guess someone had a bad day.
Good Luck.

A thumbs up for Chevy Duty and Angie from me as well. I've also spent thousands there with no real problems. The techs at times do seem a little at a loss but in their defense most of them seem pretty young and there is no way they can answer every question. They do need to be polite and courteous though. I had a problem with wiring on a set of their gauges and by the time I finished stiring it up, the owner got involved to get me satisfied.

Here in Canada I order mainly from Scotts Super Trucks. Their service is good as you talk to either Scott or Hugh. I inquired about the length of their choke cable and they went and measured it. Way back when I got my first truck I ordered a shop manual only to find the previous owner had drpped off the original on my porch sometime later without my knowing it. Scotts policy is no return on literature and the like which I think is fair. I called them and explained and was told to return it, no problem. My headliner came with a slight crease in it and again was told to send it back. I didn't send it back because I knew there would be more creases in it by the time I installed it.

I'll vouch for ChevyDuty, too.

One time I ordered an ignition switch for a '59 6-cylinder. They sent the one for an 8-cylinder. They insisted there is only one switch even though the shop manual they also sell shows them different. However when I told them I didn't want it they gave me a RAN and refunded my money.

Another time I ordered a bunch of parts for different projects. When I got the package I pulled the parts for one project and used them. Months later I set out on the other project and found a wrong part. They had sent a 36-something instead of a 46-. They sent me the needed part that day. I shipped the wrong one back and they credited me for the shipping charge.

They will continue to get my business.

I, too, bought a clutch fork boot from Chevy Duty that was no where near being the right size to fit correctly. I didn't bother to return it and currently not running one.

I have been in their store several times and have never seen the same face twice. Always seems like new inexperienced people. but everyone has to learn sometime.

Only other problem was when I bought their heater paint. I asked what type of paint it was for mixing reasons etc. No one there had a clue what type of paint it was. I mentioned it on their web site and received an anwser but by that time I had already tried it and failed. I went ahead and used a different paint.

Chevy Duty will continue to get my business. They have good parts at good prices. I was a little put off by the attitude but I'm willing to let it go. Now if I could just find a boot that is the right size...

Brad,

Was the boot an original part on a truck bell housing? I bought a boot from Chev's of the 40's and it did not fit. They took it back - it was for an automobile bell-housing and they had it listed wrong.

Thanks,
Tim

i bought a set of rebuilt guage clusters from chevy duty, many months later when i got around to installing them i found out that the speedometer didnt work. i called them and even though the return period was long past expiration, they had me send the speedo back and they sent it back to me in good working order. they didn't have to do this, but they did. so now i always look first to chevy duty.
