Hi all!
I just drove from Washington state to Maryland for Air Force training, and could not believe my eyes on the way through Montana. It seemed like every town, house and farm had an Art Deco Chevy sitting in front of it. I even saw four (two standard, one flatbed, one tow truck) sitting in one flea market. Unfortunately the flea market was closed when I went through, so I didn't get to find out how much they were going to get out of me on my next time through, but just the numbers amazed me. I can't believe how long I looked in Washington for my truck. On the plus side: I didn't see any GMCs, so I think I got a real score with mine.

This old truck sure looks neat, but where are the heated seat controls?!?

Driving just across the border from Oregon to California and spotted a 5 window AD all in primer sitting in the weeds. Stopped and spoke to guys at the shop and they said I could have it if I wanted it - free! Saw five more ADs on that trip, but I was a passenger in a sports car and it would have been quite a sight seeing all six being towed behind the MG! Of course i never got them. But one day......!

Sure....you coulda at least bought one or two parts like a grill or lower splash pan or fenders and dropped em off with me on your way through MN... I would have stored them for you..on my truck... grin

What route did you take? When I went out to Yellowstone 2 years ago, I kept my eye open but did not see any art decos..lots of other cool stuff, but no 41-46s. We went out through SD and came back through ND....stayed on the I most of the way except when we went to Little Big Horn..

46,
I stayed on I-90 all the way through the state, but it was night until I got to Billings, where I slept. The town with the "flea market" (it looked like more of a swap meet to me) was just after (east of) Billings, it may have even been the eastern outskirts of town. From there to the border of South Dakota seemed like a wet dream. I'd love it if someone from this site could get their hands on one or two of those trucks, since I don't think I'll be able to take advantage for some time.

GMC-

Drove from Spokane to Denver over the Christmas holidays and saw many of the same dry hulks just waiting for someone to give them attention. South through WY is more of the same. Guys in humid climates would love that low rust sheetmetal!

Man there is cool old iron all over this country...and most of it can be picked up real cheep. I just started to drive my latest toy this weekend. A 61 4x4 chevy truck with a 348 out of a 60 2.5 ton (but it is a car 348). So far I have 66.89$ + 1-18 pack of Bud into it. It will need a new rear u-joint and a front t-case output seal prety soon but for the most part it is fully working.

Man I've heard of the promised land of old Chevy's out West and it sounds like it's true. I have a neighbor who has people out in the West that buy old John Deere tractors for him. They take them to different storage facilities that he has in different states and twice a year he takes off with a big flatbed semi and brings a load back to NC. He buys them cheap and re-sells the heck out of them here. Every time he comes back he tells me they're all already sold before he even unloads. There's not any good tractors or trucks to be found here in the Carolinas. I wish I could talk him into bringing me back a nice rust free '37-'46. Next time some of you go out West how about posting some pics. of these treasures in the wild.

Mike-

Sounds like you have a good fix on the hardest part, transporting a rig cross-country. Post a Truck Wanted ad with your wishes, indicating low rust and you'll get hits.

Well, I thought of that and asked my neighbor if he would haul one back for me if I bought it. He said well I'd rather not and it would take up too much space when he could be hauling tractors. Oh well, I'm stuck with the good old NC stovebolts.

Mike
