What's the best way to remove the bolt that goes through the side of the axel that holds the spindal in. Its in there pretty good. | | |

Then loosen the nut to almost the end of bolt. Then smack the living H out of the nut! Talk a little more to yourself smack it again. When nut is up against spindle (it has moved by now) take nut off. Take punch and drive bolt out. If it hasn't bent or messed up threads, clean bolt, clean threads, and re-install when ready.
If bad replace imediately, yes you can get them.

Sometimes the spindle is incredibly tight coming out of the axle hole. I've had to soak the kingpin/axle in penetrating oil, or even heat things and use a BIG hammer to get the kingpin to move. Back when we did a lot of straight-axle repair, there were hydraulic jack accessories to press kingpins out, but it would be difficult to find a shop that's still equipped to do that type of work. Be patient, and use a lot of good penetrant along with a reasonable amount of hammer and punch work.

What I had to do was drill as much of the center out as possible, without affecting the hole. I am not much of a machinist so for me, this was quite scary! Anyhow, after that, I drove the kingpins out and they just pushed their way past the thin shell that was once the lockpin. Afterwards I took a punch to knock them out but they just fell out. One looked like a paper tube, it was so thin. | | |

Maybe he thought I had some thing else. So in order to get new bolts Do I go to a local part store and ask them for new LOCK PINS for a 55 1/2 ton?
Bolt are bad, mushroomed and bent to hell

Thanks for the help every one. This is a great site with great people!! Maybe he thought you had a car. Trucks have kingpins through '59. The lock bolts were included in every kingpin set I ever bought, which is quite a few. Joe | | |

that CCP sells. I ran into some problems with the steering linkage because I have mono leafs on there already. It puts the drag link at an angle. I am working on a solution this weekend. | | |
