This may be a question that would be more appropriate to the 67-72 forum, but here goes. As most of you know I have a 70 C/10 fleetside. Behind the passenger seat in the back corner of the cab is a mounting bracket that looks like it must have held the original jack. The jack is long gone. Does anyone know what it looked like and where I can get one?

I saw 3 jacks for sale at the swap meet a week ago, but none had the handle. Yes, it goes in the corner behind the passenger seat. Here's a picture of the decal from Chevy Duty.

So Fred were these the right type of jack. The reason I'm on this is that I have no jack specific to this truck, and I would like to be able to stow one in a manner that does not rattle around to much. I'm thinking one like the original would be great.

Here's one, but it doesn't have the long, folding handle. It does have the correct lug wrench.

Okay -- now I remember those. Maybe I can score a good set up, with handle, off ebay. There are a couple others on there now, but none are complete sets

It would be interesting to figure out which part had a longer run - that jack or the Eaton H0x2 axle ('47-'72).

My 1980 truck had the same jack. One of the first things I did when I bought the truck was toss the POS jack and buy a good one - a Jackall. There were many truck owners around here that did the same.

Okay...the jack wins. :p

Yes, a Jackall is heavy. But... We were 20 miles out of town in the middle of nowhere - got the truck high centered on the diff driving down a dry creek bed. Lifted the whole back end of the truck up and out of the ruts. Jackall saved the day!

I have to support what Gord says! A Jackall is the 'greatest'. I've used one for about 55 years. You can't imagine the number of times it's been used to change wheels. Got me unstuck untold times just like Gord! Used as a 'come along' too and so many other uses. It's almost a 'mandatory' tool. Bulky? Maybe, but just throw it behind the seat!

I changed a lot of tires with the factory jack. It beat the heck out of the bumper jacks that Chevy used in that era. I remember some roadside failures with them, we had a 58 and then a 63 wagon. Both failed with the back end of a loaded car in the air. The pickup jack might have been a pain to use, but at least it didn't fall apart on you. Between dad's and my pickups we had those jacks in a 64, 68, 69 and 74. You had to carry a couple of 2X4s in case you had a flat on the front, because if the tire went completely down the jack would not fit under the a-frame.

My truck will be WAY TO PERTY to go places where I could get that stuck

However, if your into stump jumpin' the jack-all is good deal. I want something compact, easy to carry, and light weight. the stock one fills that bill.

The stock jack is ok if you dont have a flat.I threw mine away after the first time I tried to change a tire with it.

I use a small floor jack that stores in it's own carrying case in case of a flat. It fits behind the seat if you relocate your tank or you can just throw it in the box, it has a plastic case to keep it dry. I also carry a four-way lug wrench in case I ever need to help someone else pull a flat. I never understood how a bottle jack would be of any good if you ever had a flat.

If you do go with a factory bottle jack, carry several pieces of 2X8's or wider. When you have a flat, drive the flat tire up onto the stack of boards to get the suspension high enough to get the jack under.

Good idea to carry the 4 way wrench, Scott. I have one too.

The "L" shaped wrench tend to round the nuts off. However, it works OK for prying hubcaps off and beating on things in frustration.

The debate on this thread proves conclusively that 99 out of 100 bolters are insane.
