Just received an email from a party interested in purchasing my truck. This guy is located outside the U.S. and asked the question as to whether I knew if the 59 could be converted to right hand drive. Just wondering if anyone has ever seen a right hand drive stovebolt before. :confused:

Sure! I saw a 57 1/2 ton with a right hand drive at the Fort Worth Goodguys show last Oct. It was made in South Africa. How you would go about changing a lefty to a righty is the question. Mods to steering and sheet metal are certain. I think you would also have to change the speedo to read right to left also.

Check out the following link. Scroll down the pictures and you'll find a good photo of a right hand drive truck. We won't tell anyone what 'brand' it is but you can be sure that GM's had the exact same setup. The instrument panel is the same, left or right, the levers are not changed nor are the switches. It's just that the driver's position is on the 'other' side.

It's very easy to convert an old truck over to RHD, especially pre-1960 or so. There are indentations in the firewall, floorboard, and on some, the inner fenders that allowed the factory to build whatever was necessary easily. The only real mechanical differences on most is the headlight shift (LHD is to the right, RHD to the left), wiper sweep (usually the opposite, to conform with AU/NZ/UK/SA/JA laws), and the obvious things like master cylinder placement and such. No differences in instrumentation or even floor pedal placement (same as LHD). Shifting with the left hand gets a little getting used to, though!

A conversion on old trucks isn't a big ordeal.

I can't speak to Task Force trucks, but the assembly manual for Advance Design trucks shows all the things that are different between RH and LH drive.

you\'ll notice there\'s a bit of dash difference in RH drive TF trucks - kinda hard to drive from the 'passenger seat' when the speedo and gauges are on the other side!!

if ya look at the assembly manual, there's an endless amount of difference, but why bother? there's folks that drive right hand drive trucks on this continent, and lots that drive ours in areas they usually have right drive rigs

Be very leery about someone overseas wanting to buy your truck. There is alot of scamming going on.

They are pretty much all RHD here ,, what country is your prospective purchaser from.

Hey there Dusty! Go Canterbury! Dont know about other countries, but here in NZ, if a car is over 20 years we dont have to convert it to rhd-it can be registered in original configuration.
