A Cool Old Truck

Ulrich Drescher's

1956 Chevy 3100

"Stokey"

13 June 2004

From Ulrich:

Hi there, all the way from Cape Town, South Africa.

My name is Ulrich Drescher, I live in Cape Town,South Africa. I own this this '56 3100 pick-up. I bought it about 18 months ago from a friend of mine. He bought it from a nursery where it was used for many years, and as far as I know, they where the original owners from 1956 until about 2001 (that is when my friend bought it).

My friend has done a bit of work on it, but I want to restore it to its full former glory. I still have the original motor and tranny, but currently run a Ford 3.0 litre V6 in it. They are common engines here. It is a right hand drive, as we drive on the left here in South Africa. It was built by a GM plant in South Africa, or at least it was assembled here. It was a spur of the moment buy, and my girlfriend encouraged it! I have done some work on it myself , but as time is in short supply, haven't done any mayor work on it yet.

I use the truck every day, and do on average about 500km a week in it. I have my own woodworking bussiness, and it comes in handy to lug around timber.

The picture is taken on the highway and that is Table Mountain in the back ground. The photo was taken by a film scout. He wants to use the truck in a movie.

I need as much info on restoration as I can get, and plan on using the Stovebolt site as a guide. I enjoy looking at the other projects, and get a lot of inspiration from it.

By the way the truck is called "STOKEY." If anyone wants to e-mail info, I will apreciate it.

Thank you for a great site and long live the Stovebolts!!!!!!
