Need answers. I am installing a new gas tank in my 49 Sub. It is going in the back between the frame rails under the rear crossmember. It is a replacement tank for a 79/81 full size blazer. Looks like with some fabbing of straps and brackets it going to work OK. The original sub tank was attached to the inside of the passenger side frame rail which would been right in the way of the right side dual exhaust pipe. Gotta have duals you know. I have a couple of questions that only BOLTERS can answer. Is the 283 with the mechanical fuel pump going to pump the gas from this location OK? Also the tank came without the pickup unit. What type of unit should I be looking for? I noticed that some of these things have 3 or more pipes sticking out of them . What are all these connections for and do I need them all? Also the truck is now 12 volt if that makes a difference. Since I have started this project I have come to the Boltsite with every imaginable question and have gotten some really good advice. Help requested one more time. Thanks all. Weeds

Weeds--know what you're talking about. I removed the tank from inside the cab of my '56 and put it back behind the axle also. I got my tank from Yogi's, (plastic type). I ordered the tank with a 0-30 ohm sending unit so it would talk to my gas guage. The tank came with one wire out of the sending unit (which goes to the guage), and then the tank has to be grounded to the frame (or a real good ground). The tank has two rubber hoses coming out of it. One, a breather, and the other, an outlet to the fuel pump. I installed braded fuel line from the fuel pump to the tank (with a filter in line) and the pump don't seem to have any problem bring the fuel forward. I'm running the 235 (stock) and don't think your fuel pump will have any problem either. Hope this helps.

I got my tank from an 88 S-10 blazer and it came with the fuel pump / sender unit build in the tank. I cannot get the fuel gauage to work. How can I tell if it is the sender unit or the gauage? How do I test the ohms?

thanks

Brian 56 What kind of gages are you using and how did you know what ohm sender to order? Weeds
